McCain Foods is launching Gastro Chips, a delicious golden brown, chunky and premium hand-cut style chip with a unique taste and texture, to help operators drive profit and upgrade their menus.
McCain Gastro Chips, made with 100% specially selected British potatoes, have been developed following research that identified strong demand for a consistently great tasting, premium chip that is quick and convenient to prepare and helps to reduce waste and preparation time.
The Homemade vs McCain* research revealed that producing consistently high quality chips, such as McCain Gastro Chips, which have a homemade appearance, with a golden brown, crisp exterior and soft, moist interior, is almost impossible to achieve on a regular basis using fresh or pre-prepared potatoes.
Donna Rowbottom, McCain Foods Marketing Manager, explains: “Our research suggests Gastro chips could revolutionise the meal service for many operators.
“Preparing quality chips from fresh potatoes, and on a consistent basis, is very labour-intensive, particularly when large volumes are involved. The study showed that for a kitchen to prepare and serve 12 batches of chips, the process takes just over three hours, while preparing the same amount of McCain Gastro Chips takes just over one hour. This is a huge and potentially very valuable saving for any operator, particularly when considered over the course of a whole week or more.”
The cost of labour often accounts for a significant proportion of the operational cost of any kitchen, so using McCain Gastro Chips to save on preparation time and wastage could drastically reduce the overall catering budget for any operator.
