At McCain, we believe that good ethics is good business. These principles guide who we are, what we do, and how we achieve it. The result? Consistently good food, simply made.
Our business was founded by the McCain brothers in Florenceville, Canada, 1957. They pioneered the very first frozen French fry and went on to become the world’s largest manufacturer of frozen potato products, opening over forty production facilities across six continents.
We’re committed to quality from the very start of the supply chain. As the UK’s largest purchaser of British potatoes we have close links to over 250 potato growers across the UK. Alongside our suppliers, we’re also a leading supporter of the Red Tractor Assurance Scheme. Find out more about our close relationship with growers on our Meet the Farmers page.
Over the past forty-five years, we’ve built a strong presence in the UK frozen foods industry. As well as owning a household retail brand, our respected foodservice business works in close partnership with distributors, chefs and caterers across thousands of the country’s pubs, restaurants, hospitals and schools.

At McCain, we work with over 250 British farmers and use only the very best of British potatoes for our chips. It’s always been that way, and always will be.
Supporting Farmers
In recent years the farming industry has been hit with climatic challenges which have led to the worst two potato crops in the last 40 years. Coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, potato growers have been presented with a number of significant challenges.
We want to support our growers through this difficult time, and that is why we have launched the McCain Grower Pledge, an investment of £25 million over the next five years in to the British potato industry. The investment will not only help British growers like Nigel Adams (pictured below) manage the increasingly erratic weather caused by climate change and the impact of COVID-19, but also strengthen our partnership with growers and benefit wider industries such as retail and hospitality.
Join us in the Chefs’ Table section to share top tips, the latest news and trends, and the food discoveries that inspire them.
Whether you’re looking to keep current customers happy, make your menu stand out from the competition, or just need some potato inspiration, there’s something for everyone.
